Chapter 278

Remembrance 1 from Chapter 278

What to say when one’s animal stumbles

Context

WE RELATE IN the Sunan of Abū Dāwūd that Abū al-Malīḥ—a well-known Tābī‘—narrated that a man reported: “I was riding behind the Prophet Honorific symbol when his animal stumbled. I said: ‘May Shayṭān perish.’ He Honorific symbol said: ‘Do not say: “May Shayṭān perish,” for if you say that he grows bigger, until he is as big as a house, and he says: “It is because of my power.” Instead, say: “In the name of Allah.” If you say that, he will shrink until he is as small as a fly.’” [1].
