Context
We relate in the Ṣaḥīḥ of al-Bukhārī that Ibn ‘Abbās 
narrated that the Messenger of Allah 
asked Jibrīl 
: “What prevents you from visiting us more often than you already do?” Then this āyah was revealed: “We descend not but by command of your Lord; to Him belongs what is before us and what is behind us.” [27].
