WE RELATE IN the Ṣaḥīḥs of al-Bukhārī and Muslim that Ibn Mas‘ūd
related that the Messenger of Allah
entered Makkah on the day of Conquest, and around the Ka‘bah were three hundred and sixty idols. He began to strike them with a branch he had in his hand, saying: “Truth has come and falsehood has perished, and falsehood is ever perishing. [1].Truth has come, and falsehood neither creates anew nor restores [2]..” [3].

Jā’a-l-ḥaqqu wa zahaqa-l-bāṭil, inna-l-bāṭila kāna zahūqā. Jā’a-l-ḥaqqu wa mā yubdi’u-l-bāṭilu wa mā yu‘īd.
